On Tuesday WhatsApp introduced there desktop app so that you can have a new way to stay in touch with your friends, anytime and anywhere – whether on your phone or computer at home or work. Earlier, users were able to access WhatsApp on their computers using WhatsApp Web, and this desktop app is simply another extension for using WhatsApp: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device. The new desktop app is available for both Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+ and is synced with WhatsApp on your mobile device.

Improvements over WhatsApp Web:

Being a desktop App it will run on your desktop like any other installed program, and so you’ll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and much more.

To download the application, visit https://www.whatsapp.com/download from your desktop browser. Then, open the app and scan the QR code using the WhatsApp app on your phone (look for WhatsApp Web menu under Settings). It’s all is similar to WhatsApp Web.

Note: As was required by WhatsApp Web, your phone needs to be connected to internet for the Application to work properly. The company recommends to use internet over Wi-Fi to avoid burning through a  lot of data.

Just like WhatsApp Web, the new desktop app lets you message with friends and family while your phone stays in your pocket.
